Restuarant Review: MacLaomainn's Scottish Pub

52 Main St. Chester, VT
802-875-6227

The evening didn't start out completely promising, as Brie was tired and Dad and Mom were having some minor disputes. Yet, by the time the family arrived in Chester, at about quarter of 8, we were ready to enjoy ourselves. Upon entering the little dining room, we weren't sure whether to wait or seat ourselves. There was a two-person table available, and we awkwardly approached it, sort of waiting for direction. A kind couple, who had been occupying a larger table, noticed our struggle and offered to switch with us. They asked us if we were Vermonters or skiers--even the locals can't tell! Yes, we live here.... But their table-trade set a new tone to the night, and we were filled with neighborly joy.

Our waitress was a delightful balance between efficient and friendly; she didn't hover or keep us waiting too long.

The menu was small, but before arrival we hadn't set our standards over the Pub's head, so we were satisfied. Dad fell under the temptation of bacon nachos, which he and Brie shared. (I tried a bit--they were scrumptious!)

Mom and I shared... oh, shoot! I forget the official Scottish name. It was a leek soup with chicken, potato and veggies. We thought it was a great way to start off the chilly night,
and mom commented on the size of the spoons: they were overly-large; similar to the soup spoons in Brazil (mom likes them that way).

Oh, Mom and Dad really liked their Scottish amber ales on draft.

For dinner, Dad had a burger; mom had a grilled chicken sandwich; Brie had (oh shoot, I forget the Scottish name again!) a sandwich like grilled cheese, but with onion and tomato; my sandwich had bacon and basil. The Cofer girls shared. Another thing on
the menu that caught our eyes was Haggis, which Brie explained to us is sheep's stomach. I plan on trying it next time!

We enjoyed our meals as the convo flowed and Scottish music played in the background. The télé was playing, above the bar, showing a soccer game.

Then it was time for dessert, and mom and I were ready!! We ordered the special bread pudding and two coffees to go along with it (decaf, of course!) Oh! It was yummy. It had
some raisins and apricots with a caramel sauce on top. Mmmmm Mmmm Mmmm!

Daddy had a peanut putter chocolate pie sort of thing, and Brie had a lemon custard. She said it was like a Grandma Miller lemon bar, except with a thin pastry crust. Brie thoroughly enjoyed it.

If it the evening wasn't enough fun already, Mom decided she wanted to give the dart board a go. Brie and she requested some darts, and Brie was "a mini Robin Hood!" quoted from one of the guys at the bar. She hit a bullseye! I, on the other hand, hit the wood... of the wall. Guess I've got to work on that aim. Dad was accurate like Brie (of course).

We had a ball, and the brave knight in the corner certainly will not scare us away. We plan on returning quite soon.

Did I mention the owner has the cutest Scottish accent? Oh!

Cheers for all. Goodnight :D enjoy the pictures :D

[ notice the brave knight :) ]
